Meaning
Al-Hadi means the Guide: the One who shows the right path and gives the ability to follow it.
Understanding the Name
There are two kinds of guidance: showing the way, and enabling a person to walk on it. Allah gives both. “And sufficient is your Lord as a Guide and a Helper” (Al-Furqan 25:31). In every rak‘ah we ask: Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqim, “Guide us to the straight path.”
No one can guide himself; even the desire for guidance is a gift from Al-Hadi. So the believer asks for guidance constantly, and is grateful for it.
Effects and reflections
The effect of this beautiful Name is that Allah guides His servants to the right path and blesses them with the ability to follow it.
Treatment (Amal)
Whoever recites “Yā Hādī” 31 times while facing the sky with hands raised (as in dua), with Durood at the beginning and the end, will, Insha’Allah, be blessed with divine guidance and counted among the righteous.
