Dr Mir Valiuddin was a professor of philosophy at the Osmania University in Hyderabad, India, for many years, specializing in Sufism. His work has contributed to demonstrating the extent to which this heritage has shaped Muslim thought and civilization through the centuries. One of the foremost academic scholars of Sufism in the East, he is the author of Quranic Sufism, Contemplative Disciplines in Sufism, and Love of God: A Sufic Approach.

Maulana Ashiq Ilahi al-Buland shehri RA
A prolific writer and eminent scholar of the Indian Subcontinent, Shaykh ‘Ashiq Ilahi al-Bulandshehri was born in 1343 AH in Bulandshehr of Uttar Pradesh. After attaining his primary education at Madrasa Imdadiyya Moradabad and Jami‘ Masjid Aligarh, he traveled to Mazahir ul Uloom Saharanpur in pursuit of higher knowledge. After completing his studies, he taught various subjects at Ferozpur Jhirka, Hayat al-Ulum Moradabad, and at different madrasas throughout Calcutta.
He later taught at Daru Uloom Karachi for several years at the request of Mufti Muhammad Shafi’, where he assumed responsibility of the fatwa department and taught students hadith and tafsir. The Shaykh later migrated to Madina, where he spent the last 25 years of his life. He was a disciple of the hadith scholar Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi. Dozens of his books have been well received in many countries.
Tohfa-e khawatin (Gift for women), Marne ke bad kya hōga? (What is going to happen after death?), Islami adab (Islamic conduct), Huquq al-walidayn (Rights of parents), and Anwar al-bayan (Illuminating discourses on the Holy Qur’an), a voluminous commentary of the Qur’an, are among the well-known books he authored. In the field of hadith, he authored Zad al-talibin (Provisions for the seekers) and Al-Fawa’id al-saniyya fi sharh al-Arba‘in al-Nawawiyya (The lofty beneficial points in the explanation of Nawawi’s Forty Hadiths). As for jurisprudence, he is the author of Al-Tashil al-daruri fi masa’il al-Quduri (The necessary facilitation of the laws of Quduri), as well as dozens of reformative booklets and articles. He passed away in the illuminated city of Madina at the age of 80 and was buried there in the Baqi‘ graveyard, as had been his desire.

اقوالِ زرین – حضرت مالک بن دینارؒ
(۱)تین عادتوں کو تین عادتوں سے تبدیل کرلو تاکہ مؤمنین کاملین میں شامل ہو جاؤ: تکبر کو تواضع سے ، حرص کو قناعت سے حسد کو خیر خواہی سے تبدیل کرلو ۔
(۲)میں نے کسی آسمانی کتاب میں پڑھا ہے اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے جو عالم اپنے علم سے دنیا طلب کرے اس کی ادنٰی سزا یہ ہےکہ میں اسے اپنی مناجات کی لذّت سے محروم کردیتا ہوں ۔
(۳)توراۃ میں لکھا ہے کہ اللہ سبحانہ و تعالیٰ فرماتا ہےکہ بادشاہوں کا دل میرے ہاتھ میں ہے جو شخص میری اطاعت کرے گا اس پر بادشاہ کو رحمت بناؤں گا اور جو نافرمانی کرے گا اس پر بادشاہ کو سخت کروں گا پس تم بادشاہوں کو گالی نہ دیا کرو ، اور جو بادشاہ تم پر سب سے بڑھ کر مہربان ہے اس کے سامنے توبہ کرو ۔
(۴)آپ کے سامنے اگر کتّا آکر بیٹھتا تو اسے نہ دھتکارتے اور فرماتے بُرے دوست سے یہ اچھا ہے ، آدمی کے بُرا ہونے کے لئے یہی کافی ہے کہ وہ خود نیک نہ ہو پھر نیک لوگوں کو بُرا کہے ۔
(۵)جو شخص دنیا کی طرف نکاح کا پیغام بھیجے گا تو وہ مہر میں اس کا پورا دین مانگے گی اور اس کے سوا راضی نہ ہوگی ۔
(۶)اس جادوگرنی سے بچو ، جو علماء کے دلوں پر اثر کرتی ہے اور ان کو اللہ کی یاد سے غافل بناتی ہے یعنی دنیا ، یہ ہاروت ماروت کے سحر سے بھی بُری اور بڑھ کر جادوگر ہے ، کیونکہ ان کا جادو تو میاں بیوی میں ہی جدائی ڈالتا تھا مگر دنیا اللہ اور بندے کے درمیان تفریق کرڈالتی ہے ۔
(۷)منافق کی علامت یہ ہے کہ دوسرے دن کے لئے کھانا جمع کرے ، اور دنیا کے لئے دوسروں سے لڑے ، اور اکیلا ہی مشہور ہونا چاہے ۔
(۸)بازار مال کو بڑھاتا ہے اور دین کو گھٹاتا ہے ۔
(۹)اللہ نے اس دل سے بڑھ کر کسی کو سزا نہیں دی جس دل سے حیاء چھین لی۔
(۱۰)جب جسم میں بیماری پورے طور سے مستحکم ہوجائے تو اسے کھانا پینا اچھا نہیں لگتا ، یہی کیفیت دل کی ہے کہ جب دنیا کی محبت سے لبریز ہوجاتا ہے تو اس کو نصیحت اثر نہیں کرتی ۔
(۱۱)دنیا کی محبت ایمان کی چاشنی کو دل سے نکال دیتی ہے ۔
(۱۲)جب بندہ علم کو عمل کے واسطے حاصل کرتا ہے تو اس کا علم کثیر ہوجاتا ہے اور اگر علم عمل کے لئے حاصل نہیں کرتا تو اس کا فجور و تکبر مزید اور عوام کے ساتھ حقارت کا معاملہ عام ہوجاتاہے ۔
